Exploring Prehistoric Poland, Volume I: From Palaeolithic to Neolithic presents a scholarly account of the earliest prehistoric periods in the territories of present-day Poland. The volume begins with studies that establish the historical, methodological, environmental and material context of prehistoric research, including the development of archaeology in Poland, Pleistocene and Early Holocene environmental change, and the role of silica lithic resources.

Its principal sections address the Palaeolithic, Mesolithic and Neolithic in chronological sequence. Each combines synthetic discussions of current research with case studies of selected archaeological sites, including caves, open-air settlements, cemeteries and ritual landscapes. Together, these contributions examine changing patterns of human adaptation, technology, social organisation and cultural transformation, from the earliest evidence of human presence to the emergence of farming communities. The volume offers an introduction to the archaeology and prehistory of Poland within the broader context of Central Europe.
