The volume reviews the principal approaches employed in contemporary energy system modelling. The analysis confirms that energy system models constitute an important tool for supporting the design, assessment and monitoring of green transition policy. The examples of their practical application presented in the volume demonstrate the growing importance of such models in the formulation and evaluation of green transition policies. At the same time, the authors emphasise that the development of an integrated modelling framework encompassing the national, regional and local levels could enhance the coherence of energy and climate policy and facilitate the alignment of national transition objectives with the specific characteristics of individual regions and local government units, including their respective potential and constraints.
